Welcome to the inaugural issue!
Well, at this point its more just an idea than a journal. We'll talk to Zeldman about how he got the ISSN for his Daily Report site, then maybe we'll be a real journal someday. Meantime, the idea here is to discuss some issues in the field of librarianship and its travelling companions - hopefully with tongue firmly in cheek but neither too flippant nor too serious to be read and enjoyed by people we don't know very well. Sometimes scholarly, sometimes with attitude, but hopefully always enlightening (or at least stimulating).
So, what is a dissident librarian? Someone who works as a librarian or was trained in library and information science and who cares deeply about our past, present and future yet doesn't necessarily buy into the accepted wisdom thereof. Someone who, Cassandra-like, has had ideas about the future come to pass and tried to make a difference but couldn't always. Hopefully we don't have a chip on our shoulders but we do have a sense of constructive frustration (not always pleasant, but always instructive).
Are you a dissident librarian? Find the usual channels of communication just too staid, slow or un-amusing? Want to discuss issues relevant to the profession in a largely unshackled environment? If so let us know. Perhaps we can be an antidote to what ails you!
